Equipping unemployed and under-employed individuals in France with the skills needed for life-changing tech careers

The collaboration between The Hg Foundation and Generation France aims to bridge the gap between the many employers who struggle to recruit entry level talent and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are not in any form of training or work. The programme comprises specific technical, behavioural, mindset and professional skills training, as well as mentoring during and after the programme. It will reach up to 3,500 unemployed learners in France through expanding Generation’s existing employability programmes and developing new employment tracks in tech-related roles.

The programme targets job roles which are expanding; have entry-level requirements that the target demographic can realistically achieve; and which provide good prospects for career progression. The Hg Foundation’s funding will also support the building out of Generation’s third-party impact evaluation. This will help to create a return on investment (RoI) fact base for employers, further strengthening the case for partnership with Generation and the recruitment of its students.

In support of this partnership, The Hg Foundation and Generation will work alongside Hg who will look to provide participating graduates with job opportunities and mentors from within Hg’s portfolio of software and service businesses, whilst also engaging its wider tech network in France to explore other potential placements for graduates. Hg’s support will also help Generation France to grow its tech portfolio of professions.

“I really benefited from the programme’s individual follow-up, the mentoring, the family spirit between learners. Five weeks is short but we learned a lot! I loved the role plays that helped us to better understand the different situations we’d face. The Soft Skill training was also amazing: I learned empathy was not a weakness, but a great strength. Today, I feel ready to be in my future company. I would also like to be part of a strong network and continue to help each other with future jobs.”
