We are piloting with the University of Manchester the extension of the Imperial College London programme to the North West of England.
The pilot is focussed on supporting students from lower income households to attain the highest grades in A Level Mathematics, opening up opportunities and access to university in STEM subjects and onwards into tech careers. The project will initially recruit up to 50 target students from the Greater Manchester area embarking on the first year of their A level studies.
Informed by data from the pilot and an evaluation of the ongoing work at Imperial, The Foundation is looking at the potential scalability of this programme.
"The University of Manchester A Level Maths attainment-raising pilot is designed to increase opportunities for Greater Manchester students from less advantaged backgrounds. This pilot is designed in collaboration with Imperial College London to increase attainment, supporting students to achieve the highest grades at A Level to facilitate their entry into Higher Education and into Russell Group institutions should they so wish. This is an excellent fit for the University of Manchester’s commitment to social responsibility. In partnership with Hg Foundation, we are keen to investigate extending the programme across the North West opening up this opportunity to a wider pool of A Level students. We are excited to see the impact of this pilot programme on students' success."
